AppleSox Fall 5-3 to Dub Sea; Begin 6-Game Road Trip

Wenatchee falls to Dub Sea by a final score of 5-3.


Mason Swan tossed a scoreless inning, while Owen Luchies pitched two scoreless. Braiden Boyd joined the party with a scoreless frame of his own. Trevor Young punched out the side in order in the top of the 8th.


Christian Garcia surrendered the loss giving up three runs on four hits with a walk. 


Dub Sea’s Matt Churchill drove a ball over the right field wall in the 1st inning to give Dub Sea a 3-0 lead.


The Fish Sticks added on in the 2nd with an RBI double by Michael Aikawa. 


Wenatchee got on the board in the 4th when Kyle Ponganiban took home on a stolen base by Jake Sanko. Kanoa Morisaki scored in the 5th on a Ponganiban single to make it a 4-2 game. 


Ponganiban brought home Camden Bates in the 7th to make it a one-run game. 


Dub Sea rebounded with a run in the top of the 9th to add some cushion and give them a 5-3 lead. 


With a Bellingham loss this evening, the AppleSox are tied for 1st in the West Coast League North standings. Wenatchee has the day off Thursday before a six-game road trip with three games in Edmonton and three more in Bellingham. 


Applesox Fry the Fish Sticks

The Wenatchee Applesox took a 5-1 win against the Dub Sea Fish Sticks tonight at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. 


Luke Sterkel earned the win tonight, pitching 5 innings while giving up 3 hits, 1 walk, and earning 4 strikeouts. Camden Bates went 2-5 with an RBI single to open the scoring on the night. Reese Vasser also played well going 2-4 with an RBI single to finish the night’s scoring. 


Easton Brooks came in for relief for Wenatchee throwing 3 no-hit and scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Aidan Gonzalez finished the 9th inning sending down all 3 batters with 1 strikeout. 


The Fish Sticks utilized 4 pitchers tonight in the loss. Dub Sea finished the night with 2 errors, 6 hits, and 5 men left on base. 


The Applesox are still in second place with a 11-4 record. The Bellingham Bells at 12-4 are .5 a game above the ‘Sox. 


Wenatchee looks to finish the series with a sweep tomorrow night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. 

AppleSox Sweep Port Angeles with 13-5 Win

The AppleSox earn a series sweep over the Port Angeles Lefties after beating P.A by a final score of 13-5 Sunday evening. 


Max Mendes earned the win for the ‘Sox (11-4) tossing 5 innings giving up just 3 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts. Jace Taylor tossed 2.1 scoreless innings without a hit surrendering 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. 


Gunnar Penzkover went 3-5 with a double and 3 RBI. Nate Gray Jr. went 3-4, including a double, with 2 RBI. Reid Graham hit a 3-run double to get the AppleSox going in the bottom of the 2nd inning and went 2-5 with 4 total RBI.


Wenatchee scored 4 in the bottom of the 1st with Penzkover’s RBI double and the 3-run double by Graham. The ‘Sox scored 4 more in the 3rd. Graham knocked in his 4th RBI with a single, while Kyle Panganiban hit a 2-run single to make it 8-0. 


The AppleSox added on in the 5th with a groundout to second by Trysten Mooney to score Graham and lead 9-0. 


Port Angeles picked up all 5 of their runs in the 7th - highlighted by a grand slam by Jeremy Giesegh. 


The ‘Sox had 4 more runs in the 8th to put it away. 


Wenatchee is now tied for 1st with the Bellingham Bells in the West Coast League North Standings. The ‘Sox host out-of-league opponent Dub Sea for 2 games Tuesday and Wednesday, before resuming league play on the road against Edmonton.


Applesox Shut Out Port Angeles

The Wenatchee Applesox took a 3-0 win against the Port Angeles Lefties tonight at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. 


Alec Johnson earned the win tonight, pitching 5 scoreless innings while giving up 4 hits, 1 walk, and earning 5 strikeouts. In the 2nd, Colby Holmdahl got the offense going with a 2-run single, and Henry Henkle closed the scoring on the night with an RBI groundout. 


Alec Ammerman came in for relief and earned the save for the ‘Sox. Ammerman pitched 4 scoreless innings, only giving up 3 hits and earning 1 strikeout. 


Port Angeles left 9 men on base with 7 hits. Ammerman sent down the last 7 hitters he saw to close out the game with the win. 


The Applesox are tied for first with the Bellingham Bells both at 10-4. 


Wenatchee looks for the series sweep tomorrow on Bark in the Park night presented by Firehouse Petshop. 






AppleSox Historic Night Turns Into 21-9 Win

The AppleSox gathered 25 hits and 35 total bases to set records for the most in franchise history in a 21-9 walloping of the Port Angeles Lefties. 

Mitch Haythorn (1-2) earned the win going 6 innings with 9 strikeouts. 

Trysten Mooney went 4-5 with three RBI. Brady Bean collected his first home run in a 2-4 effort and scored twice. Jack Barker went 4-6 with 2 2Bs and 3 RBI.

Bean got the offense rolling in the 1st with a solo homer the other way, while Barker hit his 1st double to make it 2-0. The AppleSox (9-4) scored another two in the second on an RBI single by Colby HolmDahl in the second and a ground ball by Kyle Ponaniban to make it 4-0. Another run scored in the 3rd on an RBI single by Mooney. 

Wenatchee rallied for 5 runs in the 5th, and 10 runs in the 6th where the ‘Sox walked 6 times. 

The AppleSox are now tied for 1st with the Bellingham Bells in the West Coast League North Standings. They’ll try for their 5th straight series win Saturday evening.


AppleSox Battle Back to a 11-7 Series Win

The Wenatchee Applesox battle back with a 5-run 7th inning and a strong relief effort from Gunnar Penzkover over the Kamloops NorthPaws to a 11-7 series win on Thursday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.


Wenatchee is now 4-0 in series to start the 2025 season. 


Jake Sanko went 2-2 on the night with 3 RBI’s, 2 hits, and 2 runs. Jack Barker going 2-2 with 2 RBI’s, 2 hits, and 2 runs. Gunnar Penzkover earned the win tossing 3.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, one of them being earned. 


The Applesox (8-4) got ahead early in the first with a 2-run triple from Jack Barker. They extended their lead in the 3rd with 3 more runs. 


The Northpaws came back in the 4th, earning a 1-run lead in the 5th. The ‘Sox came back with a dominating 7th to take a commanding 11-7 lead. Brady Bean tied the game with a RBI double, and Cade Martinez took the lead on a passed ball. Singles from Jake Sanko and Reid Graham provided cushion for Wenatchee’s lead. 


The Applesox are now 2nd West Coast League North, 1 game behind the Bellingham Bells. The ‘Sox welcome Port Angeles on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. 



AppleSox Fall 9-6 to Kamloops in Extras

Wenatchee drops a heartbreaker to Kamloops in extra innings 9-6 Wednesday night to even the series at 1-1. 

The Applesox (7-4) received key contributions from newcomer Camden Bates (2-6, R), Henry Henkel (2-3, 2 RBI, R), and Cade Martinez (1-5, 2B, RBI) to score 6 runs. Wenatchee used 5 pitchers this evening. Combined, they gave up 10 walks with 12 strikeouts. 

The ‘Sox scored all 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd when they sent 10 men to the dish. They failed to keep traffic on the base pads consistent, picking up just two hits the rest of the way. 

Kamloops (7-4) had 12 men left on base tonight and had at least one baserunner in every inning, including the 10th. 

After securing a 6-0 lead, the NorthPaws crossed 1 run in the 3rd, two in the 4th, another pair in the 8th, 1 more in the 9th to tie it, and 3 in the 10th. 

Wenatchee will attempt to clinch their 4th series win in the rubber match against the NorthPaws Thursday evening. The ‘Sox are tied for 2nd in the West Coast League North standings with Kamloops. Both teams trail the Bellingham Bells by a game. 


AppleSox Take Opening Game of Series Over Kamloops 4-3

The Wenatchee AppleSox rode a four-run third inning and a strong start from Blake Sandvik to a 4-3 victory over the Kamloops NorthPaws on Tuesday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Field.

Sandvik tossed six innings of one-run ball, striking out seven and allowing just five hits to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the season. The right-hander kept the Kamloops offense quiet early, allowing the AppleSox to take control.

Wenatchee (7-3) did all its scoring in the third inning. Brady Bean delivered an RBI double before Kyle Panganiban (PONG-uh-KNEE-bon) laced a two-run double of his own, giving the AppleSox a 4-1 lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Bean and Panganiban combined for three of Wenatchee’s seven hits.

Kamloops (6-4) threatened late, plating two runs in the seventh on a bases-loaded double from Carter Clark to cut the deficit to one. But reliever Carson Boesel slammed the door with 2.1 scoreless innings to earn his first save of the summer.

Mason Chien took the loss for the NorthPaws, giving up four runs (three earned) over four innings of work.

Despite outhitting Wenatchee 10-7, Kamloops left eight runners on base and couldn’t overcome a quiet middle stretch offensively.

The AppleSox have now won three straight and will look to continue their momentum as the series continues Wednesday.


'Sox Clinch Series Win With 10-3 Victory Over Nanaimo

AppleSox clinched a series win Sunday with a 10-3 victory over the Nanaimo NightOwls.

Gunnar Penzkover went 2-3 with 3 RBI and scored twice. Noah Fields went 2-5 with 3 RBI and also scored twice. 

On the mound, Max Mendes earned the win after tossing 5 innings with 4 strikeouts and gave up just 2 runs on 7 hits with a walk. Alec Ammerman gave up just one run on 2 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts over 3 innings of work. While Trevor Young only needed 3 pitches to end the game in the 9th. 

The win comes after the AppleSox (6-3) dropped the opening game of the road trip 7-3, and took game 2 9-4. Wenatchee is now 3-0 in series to start the 2025 season. 

The AppleSox surged in the top of the 1st. Penzkover doubled home two runs to lead 4-0. 

In a 7-2 lead in the top of the 7th, Penzkover doubled again to score another run, while Nate Gray Jr. singled to bring home Penzkover. Gray scored on a groundout to the pitcher to lead 10-2. 

Wenatchee is now tied for the top spot in the West Coast League North division standings with Bellingham and the ‘Sox next opponent Kamloops. That series starts 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. Wenatchee is home June 10-15, then a day off before welcoming out of league opponent Dub Sea to town June 17-18. 


AppleSox Rally Late in 9-4 Victory

The Wenatchee AppleSox used a late offensive surge to pull away from the Nanaimo NightOwls, earning a 9-4 win on Saturday night at Serauxman Stadium.

The AppleSox plated five runs over the final two innings to break open a close game, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting. Noah Gray Jr. led the way with a home run and two RBI, while Colby Holmdahl added a solo shot, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Quincy Malbrough tripled and drove in a pair to help spark the AppleSox offense.

Wenatchee’s pitching trio held firm despite allowing 10 hits. Starter Alec Johnson struck out six over four innings. Gunnar Penzkover earned the win in relief, and Carson Boesel closed out the final two innings without surrendering a hit.

Defensively, Wenatchee committed just one error while turning in solid work behind the plate and in the field. Nanaimo, meanwhile, was hampered by four errors and nine men left on base.

Trent Zenk and Owen Wessel paced the NightOwls with multi-hit efforts, but the late rally by Wenatchee proved too much to overcome. Jaedeyn Edwards was charged with the loss for Nanaimo after giving up five runs in the final two frames.

With the win, Wenatchee improves to 5-3 on the season, while Nanaimo drops to 4-4.

AppleSox Drop Opening Game of Road Trip in Nanaimo

Wenatchee brought a 3-1 deficit within a run in the 8th but the pitching could not hold on in the home half of the inning as the AppleSox (4-3) fall to Nanaimo (4-3) 7-3.


Brady Bean went 2-3 with a run scored, while Noah Fields collected a pair of RBI in a 1-4 effort. Starting pitcher Mitch Haythorn (0-2) struck out six hitters over four innings pitched giving up two runs and took the loss. 


Jace Taylor tossed three innings with four strikeouts and gave up a run on two hits. 


Bean scored on a Fields double in the top of the 1st to give the Applesox an early lead. 


Nanaimo’s Eli Watson drove in a run in the 3rd to tie it at 1-1. In the 4th, the NightOwls took the lead on a throwing error. The ‘Owls extended the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th as Talan Zenk scored on a double by Andrew Nykoluk.


Fields drove in his second run on a groundout to score Jake Sanko in the top of the 8th to pull the ‘Sox back within a run. 


The bottom of the 8th became the problem for Wenatchee. A Jacob Hayes double scored an ‘Owls run, while Nykoluk walked with the bases loaded to score another run. Hayes and Zenk both scored on a single by Owen Wessel to lead 7-2. 


The AppleSox managed to score a run and load the bases in the top of the 9th but the rally fell short. 


Wenatchee is now tied for 3rd in the West Coast League North standings with Bellingham, Port Angeles, and Nanaimo.


Game two of the road trip begins at 6:35 p.m. Saturday.


AppleSox Fall 5-4 in Series Finale; Face Nanaimo for Weekend Road Trip

Wenatchee surged for three runs in the bottom of the 7th but fall to Kelowna by a final score of 5-4. 


Jake Sanko had a pair of RBIs with a double in a 1-4 effort. Jake Sanko also went 1-4 with an RBI double. Noah Fields also went 1-4 and he had an RBI. 


Applesox (4-2) pitching had a night to forget with 10 walks surrendered. Starter Christian Garcia received the loss going 2.1 innings giving up three runs on five walks and a hit with three strikeouts. 


Kelowna (1-5) reliever Beckett Lund received the win with 2.2 innings pitched giving up two runs on four walks with a hit while he struck out four batters. 


Fast-forwarding to the 7th inning in a 5-1 Kelowna lead, AppleSox designated hitter Colby Holmdahl and right-fielder Brady Bean both got hit by a pitch. A wild pitch advanced both runners, while Fields hit home Holmdahl on a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-2 game. Bean scored on a wild pitch to bring Wenatchee within 2. 


Jack Barker and Cade Martinez walked, while Sanko hit Barker home on a double to make it a 5-4 game.


Martinez had a chance to tie the game on a wild pitch, but Kelowna catcher Caden Mitchell fielded the ball perfectly and dove towards the plate to tag out Martinez to end the inning. 


Wenatchee failed to find any momentum in the final two innings. 


The AppleSox find themselves tied for 2nd place in the WCL North Standings with Bellingham and Kamloops.


Wenatchee heads on the road for the first time this year for a three-game series against the Nanaimo NightOwls. Friday and Saturday’s games start at 6:35 p.m. while Sunday’s game starts at 1:10 p.m.


Applesox Win a Tight One 2-0 Over Kelowna; Clinch Series

Wenatchee clinches a series win over Kelowna with a 2-0 final score. 


The Applesox (4-1) have not allowed a run in their last two ball games. Gunnar Penzkover went 2-3 and scored the go-ahead run in the 5th. Noah Fields had a clutch RBI double in the bottom of the 8th to give Wenatchee some insurance over the Falcons (0-4).


Wenatchee pitching combined for 14 strikeouts. Karsten Sweum went 4.2 innings giving up just one hit and three walks while striking out 9 - a season-high by any Applesox pitcher. Alec Ammerman earned the win in relief going 2.1 innings giving up just two hits, picking up a punchout. Joe Thornton tossed two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and earned the first save of the season for Wenatchee. 


The Applesox and Falcons found themselves in a stalemate through four innings. To the bottom of the 5th, Penzkover led off the inning with a single and made it to second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a passed ball. 


In the 8th, Thornton took over after Ammerman gave up a leadoff single to end his night. With one out, Thornton surrendered a single to put runners on the corners with two away. He responded by punching out the next two hitters.


In the bottom of the frame, Jack Barker worked a two-out full count walk. On the first pitch, Fields drilled a ball in the right-center field gap to score Barker and give the ‘Sox an insurance run. 


Thornton shut down the Falcons 1-2-3 in the top of the 9th. 


Wenatchee will close out the opening home stand searching for a series sweep at 6:35 p.m. Thursday. 


Applesox Blank Kelowna 13-0

Blake Sandvik pitched six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to earn his first win this year as Wenatchee defeated Kelowna 13-0.


It’s the second time the Applesox have scored 10 or more runs and shut out their opponent this season. It’s also the third game in a row the Applesox have scored at least 10 runs. 


Noah Fields went 1-3 with a two-run home run in the 1st inning and three RBI. Cade Martinez went 2-3 with a double and two RBI. Quincy Malbrough scored twice in a 2-5 effort with a double. Jake Sanko also had a pair of RBI knocks in a complete team effort. 


11 men came to the plate in the 4th for the Applesox. With one out, Reid Graham got the offense rolling with a 3-1 count walk. Kelowna (0-4) starting pitcher Luke Brown hit Owen Firestone with a pitch. Marlborough singled to load the bases. Brady Bean continued his hot start with a RBI walk. Jack Barker grounded out to score another run. Two batters later, Jack McWilliams hit a two-run triple to blow it open with a Jake Sanko RBI single to follow and give Wenatchee an 8-0 lead. 


Two more scored in the 5th. Malbrough scored on a wild pitch and Fields had his third RBI on a sacrifice to give the Applesox a 10-0 lead. 


Three runs scored in the 7th with an RBI single by Jake Sank and a two-run Martinez double. 


In the bullpen, Gunnar Penzkover struck out a hitter, while Luke Sterkel struck out two. Joe Schuyleman went 1-2-3 in the 9th with a pair of punchouts to seal the victory.

Wenatchee Crushes Yakima Valley 17-4, Earns Series Win

The Applesox received a heroic effort from newcomer Kyle Panganiban, who went 5-5 with seven RBIs and was a home run away from the cycle in the 17-4 win over Yakima Valley. 


The win gave Wenatchee (2-1) a series win over the Pippins (1-2).


Brady Bean also tied the Applesox record for most runs scored in a game with five. 


David Barnes pumped up the gas to 96 miles per hour in relief and earned the win with five strikeouts. Starter Max Mendes tossed four innings scoreless giving up just two hits and a walk and hit two batters while striking out one. 


Wenatchee got on the board early with two runs in the first on an RBI by Panganiban to score Bean, while Jake Sanko scored Panganiban to give Wenatchee a 3-0 lead 


The Applesox didn’t look back, as Bean tripled home Owen Firestone in the 2nd and scored on a Panganiban sacrifice fly to lead 4-0. 


Wenatchee added four more runs in the fourth on a two-run double by Jack Barker and an RBI double by Panganiban. Jack McWilliams had a sacrifice fly and Wenatchee led 8-0. 


Panganiban brought home another run with a triple in the 6th where Wenatchee scored two runs and led 10-0.


Yakima Valley did get on the board with a run off Jace Taylor in the seventh, but Taylor struck out three batters and earned a hold out of the ‘pen.


Wenatchee led 17-1 after the 8th, and Cody Snow shut the door in the 9th as Yakima Valley scored three times to give the final score of 17-4. 


The Applesox have the day off Monday before hosting the Kelowna Falcons for a three-game series June 3-6.


Applesox Blank Pippins 10-0

Alec Johnson gave up just two hits as the starter and struck out six in five scoreless innings of work, and the offense picked up 10 runs to give the Applesox their first win of the season 10-0 over Yakima Valley. 


Wenatchee (1-1) pitchers did not walk a single batter, with Carson Boesel earning a hold out of the ‘pen tossing three innings giving up just one hit with two strikeouts. Trevor Young closed it out in the 9th giving up just one hit. 


Noah Fields went 2-4 with three RBI, Colby Holmdahl went 3-5, while Brady Bean continued his hot start with a 2-4 effort, including a pair of doubles and an RBI. 


The win marked manager Mitch Darlington’s 100th as an Applesox skipper, becoming just the second manager in Applesox history to do so. 


Bean started it off in the first with a double down the right field line. Jack McWilliams brought him home on an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Nate Gray Jr walked home a run to make it 2-0. 


Payton Smith led off the 2nd with a single, and he scored on a Bean RBI double in the left-center field gap to make it 3-0 Wenatchee. Bean scored when Jake Sanko hit a ground ball to third, where Jacob Brooks sailed the throw and gave the ‘Sox a 4-0 lead. 


To the fifth, where Gunnar Penzkover picked up a two out single, and Jack Barker brought him home with an RBI single to make it 5-0. 


Another run scorer in the sixth when Fields doubled to lead off the inning, Holmdahl singled, and an error allowed Fields to score to make it 6-0. 


Three more runs scored in the 7th, part of four hits in a row. Barker singled, followed by a Sanko double, with a two-run Fields single. Fields eventually scored on a failed pickoff attempt to give Wenatchee a 9-0 lead. 


Fields hit a sacrifice fly in the 8th to give the Sox a 10-0 lead.

Applesox Come Up Short on Opening Night

Brady Bean gathered three hits for the Applesox, but the Yakima Valley Pippins took home the win on Opening Night 5-1.


Wenatchee (0-1) fell behind early with starter Mitch Haythorn (0-1) on the mound. Haythorn tossed three innings giving up four runs, three earned, on three hits. He struck out six hitters and, at one point, struck out five in a row. The Applesox committed four errors, and hit into three double plays. 


Yakima Valley (1-0) starter Ty Pangborn (1-0) tossed five innings giving up one run on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts.


Haythorn got into some trouble to start off the first with back-to-back full count walks, while Finley Spicer drove both walks in with a two-run double to the left-center field gap to make it 2-0. 


The Pippins continued their momentum in the 3rd. Dillon Anderson led off the inning with a single and stole second and third. He scored on a RBI double by Jacob Brooks. Kyle Bittner hit a ball to second, where Noah Fields committed a throwing error and allowed another runner to score and give Yakima Valley a 4-0 lead. 


Wenatchee picked up a run on a Bean RBI single with one out in the bottom of the 3rd to make it a 4-1 game. 


With Joe Thorton on the mound, Bittner hit a dribbler back to the mound and Thornton threw the ball a bit high allowing Bittner to reach. Bittner stole second and came home on an RBI single by Ethan Buckley.


Thornton tossed three innings giving up just one run unearned on a hit with a walk and a strikeout. 


Easten Brooks and Alec Ammerman combined for three scoreless innings in relief. 


Head Coach Mitch Darlington said after the game the Applesox just could not get the big hit when it counted, as all 10 of Wenatchee’s hits came on singles. He added the four errors and three double plays didn’t help matters. 


The Applesox take on the Pippins for game two of the three-game series at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium at 6:35 p.m. Saturday.


AppleSox Unveil 25th Anniversary Team

The Wenatchee AppleSox have revealed their 25th anniversary team on the eve of the team’s 25th season.

The team consists of eight fielders, a designated hitter, a utilityman, five starting pitchers, a relief pitcher and a closer. Several players played multiple seasons with the AppleSox but this list was determined based on the best individual seasons in team history. AppleSox owner Jose Oglesby (2018-present), head coach Mitch Darlington (2022-present) and former broadcaster Joel Norman (2018-24) collaborated on this list.

Four players on the list have appeared in the major leagues (Brandon Bailey, Cole Gillespie, Keston Hiura and Michael Toglia). Two listed players were named WCL MVP (Toglia and Joichiro Oyama). The Wenatchee AppleSox Baseball Club was founded in 1999 and played its first season in 2000. The AppleSox played in the Pacific International League from 2000-04 before helping to co-found the West Coast League in 2005. Wenatchee has captured six league championships (2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2012), nine division championships (2002, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2024) and made 16 postseason appearances (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024).

The AppleSox open up their 25th season this weekend against the Yakima Valley Pippins. Opening Day is Friday at 6:35 p.m. and is presented by 12 Tribes Colville Casinos. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a magnet schedule giveaway thanks to Clean Connection. Saturday also gets started at 6:35 p.m. and is presented by Pat Armstrong Ford. Sunday’s series finale is at 5:35 p.m. but fans with tickets to that game can also use their tickets to get in to our Cuffs & Axes game at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium at 1 p.m. between local fire and police members. AppleSox Sign 14 Players To 10-Day Contracts

AppleSox head coach Mitch Darlington announced on Friday the addition of 14 players to 10-day contracts for the 2025 season. These players, in addition to previously-announced returners Reese Vassar and Brady Bean, will help provide depth in the first few weeks of the season.

Barnes is a right-handed pitcher at Spokane Community College. He earned NWAC First Team East Region honors this spring by recording a 1.40 ERA with 29 strikeouts and 11 walks over 19.1 innings in 17 relief appearances in the regular season. Barnes did not allow a run in 14 games and has not surrendered any in his last 11 outings. 

The Spokane native graduated from Mead High School in 2024. He was primarily a position player, batting .254 with four extra-base hits and 13 RBI over 39 games in two years of varsity baseball.

Dowdy is a right-handed pitcher at Yakima Valley College. He has a 3.68 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 10 walks over 36.2 innings in eight games (six starts) this spring as a redshirt freshman after missing the 2024 season. Dowdy tossed a complete game in a 3-2 win vs. Southwest Oregon Mar. 9, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking one over seven strong innings.

The Helena, Mont. native graduated from Capital High School in 2023. He played football there in addition to baseball.

Fields is a utilityman at Bellevue Community College who previously played at Tacoma Community College. He is committed to the University of Texas at Arlington this fall. Fields hit .360 with six home runs and 49 RBI in 50 regular-season games this season to earn the utility spot on the NWAC North Region First Team. He batted .274 with a home run and 18 RBI in 37 games as a freshman at Tacoma in 2023 but only appeared in eight games in 2024 before transferring.  

The Puyallup, Wash. native hit .426 in two seasons of varsity baseball at Puyallup High School, where he graduated from in 2022. Fields batted .462 with six extra-base hits and 12 RBI while also stealing nine bases in 17 games as a senior. 

Firestone is a redshirt sophomore catcher at Chabot College who previously played at Cal Poly. He hit .270 with two home runs, 12 RBI and five multi-hit games in 21 games this spring to help the Gladiators finish the season 28-14. Firestone redshirted for the Mustangs in 2023 before getting 10 at-bats in five games in 2024.

The Alameda, Calif. native spent parts of the last two summers in the California Collegiate League with the Walnut Creek Crawdads. Firestone collected seven hits in 14 at-bats in four games at the plate in 2023 while also making five appearances on the mound. He followed that up by batting .243 in 12 games in 2024.

Henkel is a catcher at Wenatchee Valley College who was just named an East Region Gold Glove recipient and Second Team member. He hit .306 with one home run and 19 RBI along with 31 walks in 40 regular-season games this spring as a sophomore. Henkel batted .287 with 16 RBI and 23 walks in 32 games as a freshman in 2024.

The Maple Valley, Wash. native graduated from Tahoma High School in 2023. Henkel hit .316 with five doubles, a home run and 20 RBI as a senior following batting .474 in 14 games in 2023 as a junior. 

Holmdahl is a first baseman at Edmonds Community College. He hit .230 with 15 RBI, 15 walks and six stolen bases over 41 games as a redshirt sophomore. Holmdahl did not play in 2024 but hit .333 with 22 RBI and 21 walks over 47 games as a freshman in 2023. 

Graduated from Glacier Peak High School in 2022. Holmdahl hit .292 with two home runs, 10 RBI and 11 hit-by-pitches over 16 games his senior year.

Johnson is a freshman left-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College committed to Loyola Marymount. He recorded a 1.53 ERA with 70 strikeouts and 18 walks over 47 innings in 11 games (all starts) to earn NWAC East Region First Team honors. Johnson’s best outing came Apr. 2 vs. Yakima Valley, when he tossed a complete-game shutout with 12 strikeouts, one walk and one hit over seven innings in a 5-0 win. 

The Enumclaw, Wash. native graduated from Enumclaw High School in 2024. He recorded an 8-0 record with a 0.22 ERA, 62 strikeouts and six walks over 32.1 innings in 11 games as a senior.

King is a sophomore outfielder at Spokane Community College. He hit .258 with one home run, 24 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 47 games this regular season. King batted .330 with 11 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 35 games as a freshman in 2024.

The Spokane Valley, Wash. native graduated from University High School in 2003. In addition to baseball, King also played basketball in his prep career.

Mooney is a junior catcher at Chaminade who previously played at Wenatchee Valley College. He batted .179 with 8 RBI, 10 walks and two stolen bases over 32 games for the Silverswords this spring. Mooney hit a combined .218 with 24 RBI, 34 walks and 27 stolen bases over 67 games with the Knights over the previous two seasons. The Helena, Mont. native was awarded the NWAC East Region Gold Glove at catcher last season.

Schertenleib is an infielder at Bellevue Community College, who earned NWAC First Team North Region honors this spring. He batted .333 in the regular season with two home runs and 18 RBI in 24 games. Schertenleib hit .236 with one home run and 19 RBI in 39 games as a freshman in 2024. 

The Brewster native graduated from Brewster High School in 2023. In addition to baseball, Schertenleib also played basketball and football for the Bears. 

Schuyleman is a freshman right-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College. He recorded a 4.38 ERA with 35 strikeouts and 13 walks over 51.1 innings in 11 games (six starts) in the regular season this spring. Schuyleman’s best outing came Apr. 12 when he allowed one run over five innings and struck out seven against Big Bend.

The Wenatchee native graduated from Wenatchee High School in 2024. He posted a 2.07 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 16 walks in 10 appearances last spring. Schuyleman also excelled at the plate, batting .260 with 11 RBI and four stolen bases in 20 games.

Smith is an infielder at Umpqua Community College and was named an NWAC East Region Gold Glove winner this season. He is hitting .174 through 39 games this spring with a home run and 18 RBI. Smith hit .277 with 15 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 43 games as a freshman in 2024.

The Las Vegas native graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in 2023 where he played 35 games over varsity baseball. Smith also played high school basketball in his prep career. 

Snow is a sophomore right-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College. He went 7-2 with a 2.67 ERA, 50 strikeouts and 25 walks over 54 innings in 11 games (all starts) this spring. Snow tossed five-or-more innings five times and twice exceeded seven innings. He did not pitch in 2023 after posting a 2.00 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 18 walks over 45 innings in 16 relief appearances in 2023. 

The Mountlake Terrace, Wash. native graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School in 2022. Snow posted a .298 ERA over three years of varsity baseball, including recording a 1.98 ERA with 59 strikeouts and 24 walks over 57 innings in nine games. 

Sterkel is a right-handed pitcher at Wenatchee Valley College. He recorded a 3.75 ERA with 44 strikeouts and 30 walks over 48 innings in 12 games (eight starts) as a freshman in the regular season this spring. 

The Ellensburg native graduated from Ellensburg High School in 2024. He recorded a 1.24 ERA with 14 strikeouts and six walks over 17 innings in five games as a senior. Sterkel also batted .261 with two doubles and 5 RBI over nine games that season.

Eleven Former Or Future AppleSox Earn 2025 NWAC All-Region Honors

The Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) announced its 2025 All-Region honorees on Thursday morning and 11 different members affiliated with the AppleSox were recognized.

Former AppleSox assistant coach Mike Callia led the way by being recognized as West Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Callia was an assistant coach with Wenatchee from 2023-24, helping lead them to the postseason both seasons and a combined 72-39 regular-season record. He led the AppleSox pitching staff to the fifth-best ERA (3.35) in the WCL in 2023 and has helped Lower Columbia record the second-best ERA (2.65) in the NWAC this season.

Joe Thornton, who pitched for the AppleSox in 2024 and is signed for the 2025 season, earned an infield spot on the Second Team East Region. He pitched in two regular-season games with the AppleSox and has thrived with Spokane this spring after redshirting last year. The Tonasket native hit .342 with 23 RBI in 44 regular-season games while also posting a 2.38 ERA in nine appearances on the mound.

Nine newcomers signed to the AppleSox for the 2025 season were also honored by the NWAC Thursday.

About The AppleSox: The Wenatchee AppleSox are a summer collegiate baseball team in the West Coast League. All players on the AppleSox must have college eligibility and retain their amateur status. Wenatchee is a co-founding member of the WCL and has won five WCL championships, second-most in league history.
